James Crump - Beats Drums
Matt Gill - Plays Guitar and Sings
John Hicks - Sings and Tickles Ivory
Sam Richards - Basses and Sings
Charlie Waddington - Sings and Plays Guitar
On May 29th Portsmouth quintet Bluesky Research release the debut double AA-sided single on their own Research Recordings (Distribution through Genepool). The band also run a monthly sold out 300 capacity club Research in their hometown where they play, promote 2 other acts and DJ. They won't be hanging around waiting for things to happen, they're out there doing it on their own terms.
The tracks "True Spirit" (co-produced with the band's Charlie Waddington) and "Ask For The Dawn" were produced by Greg Haver (Manic Street Preachers, Super Furry Animals and weirdly enough a co-write with Simpsons creator Matt Groening!) in Stir Studio in Cardiff at the end of 2005 . Available on CD and 7", both formats will be numbered.
Bluesky Research come from that true tradition of proper classic British rock bands and show a depth of writing that encompasses everything from The Verve, Pink Floyd and The Stone Roses and even reaches over the pond to Beach Boys 3 part harmonies.
The band have supported the God-like Ian Brown. Charlie Waddington from Bluesky Research also co-wrote 'Sweet Fantastic' on Brown's last studio album 'Solarized'.
For a review of the single keep an eye out for Tommy L's take, on The Fly Wessex.
Catch them live at the following venues:
