Gojira - Profile

Name:

Gojira

Why you have such a ridiculous name:

Because we used to run a club night called 'Gojira' back in the late 90s. It was themed around B-Movies (Gojira is the Japanese name for Godzilla) and when we formed the band the name kinda stuck.

When & how you formed:

Chix started it all after leaving the band 'The Elishe'. In July 2004 Gojira was set up playing tracks off Chix's album 'Transformer' with a few session musicians. This then grew and grew as more people became interested. Our first gig was with the Freestylers at the Cowes Week Festival, Isle of Wight. Talk about jumping in at the deep end! We then steadily conquered every venue in Southampton (live venues and clubs alike) and are now set to play all over the UK.

Where can we usually find you if we want our money back or something?

At a nuclear testing facility off the coast of Japan. Or email info@gojira.co.uk

The kinda sounds you play:

Drum and Bass, Breaks, Electropop, Dub, Soca, Funk. Think Portishead crossed with Lamb, Prodigy, Chemical Brothers, Dreadzone, Freestylers and Scissor Sisters. Yeah baby!

Your heroes:

The club and music promoters of small cities like Southampton who are selflessly dedicated to improving the scene, having a great time and pushing bands like us!

Your thoughts on world politics:

There's nothing a huge rampaging mutated dinosaur won't fix!

The top three things readers need to know about you:

1. The best time you'll ever have is when we play live (and you're there).

2. You've got to see us live (or we'll find you).

3. If you haven't seen us play live yet, your life is not complete (and your ears will fall off).
