Valley Sessions Volume II

New CD From The Valley Studios Label 'Valley Recordings'
by Louise Glyde

Some of Winchester’s best acoustic acts have been captured on a new CD. The 16-track album has been lovingly put together by Ben Startup, who runs The Valley recording studio in Winnall. Artists featured on Valley Sessions Volume II (The Tavern Sessions), due out on Tuesday December 6th, were selected from open mic nights held at the Guildhall Tavern, Winchester. The event is held every Tuesday night and is supported by Valley Studios. This CD is the second release for the label. Last year Valley Sessions Volume I hit the shops. It consisted primarily of local rock bands recorded in short sessions to “capture the energy,” said Ben. Talking about his newest creation he enthused: “There are so many talented musicians, singers and song writers. It was an ideal opportunity to get them together, have them record in the studio and release an album. If you put quite a few artists on a compilation album they ultimately get more exposure and, chances are, if you like one, you will like the rest.” Ben explained: “Most open mic nights are generally recorded live at the venue. What we have done with The Tavern Sessions is taken the artists back into the studio, in come cases with their full band, and released the result. There is such a lively singer song writer scene in Winchester, with the Roots Night at The Railway and now with the relatively new Tavern Sessions. It is so nice to be able to release an album that pulls all that together.” The 16-track CD featuring Coffee, The Hip Hop Farmers and Soupçon will be launched at The Guildhall Tavern on December 6th and will be available on the night.
